Hey guys, here is the first rough sketch of @123leistner 's character. It's a very interesting and special one.
If you want to find out more about him check out:
He is sitting in a port town and probably working on his nautical charts. Within the next weeks i will keep you updated on the artworks progress. I am very excited about this one, i hope so are you.
Thanks to @Themefinland for sharing his progress with us.
What are your thoughts about the sketch so far?
Hey guys, here a new work in progress. What do you think @123leistner?
Damn that is a quick developement! I saw the rough sketch just some days ago. Sherdet looks awesome and I like the surroundings, giving off some mediterrean feeling. He looks thoughtful, intelligent and sort of having a contemplative aura around him. I only wonder: Does this horned Napha in the background with the armor have a big wooden box in his snout or does he have it in his face like a brick? Whatever the explanation, I love it. (Though I cannot remember Themefinland ever drawing something I didn't liked. π )
Great to hear that you like it! And yeah I totally agree with your analyses. The scenery, his pose etc fits the character very well.
Haha the one with the silver armor ? No i think thats just his face, he is a Krogar and has his jaw closed. Seems like he is one of the Krogars with a larger jaw.
@Timberwolf Ah one of normals. Ok, I didn't saw it, by it being so perfectly rectangular XD I also like the change from the sketch with his right arm, the gesture, holding the sextant and the tip of one claw on it gives him something slightly dangerous. Personally I think of people with no past (or at least no past they admit to others) as wild cards. They could be just what they seem, travelers, merchants or whatever, or much more and this quite serious looking picture, with Sherdet sitting in the dark with the others outside in the light, I love it!
@123leistner Exactly. Sooo great to hear! Thats 100 % what @Themefinland wanted to achieve and also told me personally. I quote: "I wanted to allude to his unspoken darker past by leaving his face into the shade while he is working on some kind of map" And yeah his gesture and so on just underline his characters traits so well. I really like it too and he did an amazing job specially with considering the character story in his work.
final version π₯
The artwork has become its final touch. Some really cool details here and there and some rendering. What do you guys think?
I have to say that this one is definitely one of my all time favorites.
A true masterpiece! πΏ thanks and huge shout-out to @Themefinland
And thanks to @123leistner for inventing and adding such a cool character to Lyboria.
I love it! Though that statement is probably no surprise π Themefinland really nails the look of a shady, thoughtful character here. Awesome ^.^

@Timberwolf I write currently a small story revolving around Sherdet and I wanted to ask, if I can ask some questions about the world of GoL and if such a story would be ok. And when I am finished, if there is a place to post it or if it should go through the admins first?
that sounds awesome. Sure!
What would you like to know about Lyboria or the Naphas in particular?
It's not necessary to get it checked first at all. I think fan fiction is always cool but i think it might be helpful to share it with us in advance so we can maybe give you some input to make it as close as possible to the canon (if thats what you like to achieve).
However, we always draw inspiration from such stories so im looking forward to it. If you need any help just let me know. If you do not mind you can ask your questions here so it might be helpful to everyone.
If you like our feedback to your work in advance you can send at a.paul@glimpse-luna.com
And i think it would be fitting to post it here or we might open some other threads or categories. I ll think about that in the meantime and figure something out :)
@Timberwolf Awesome! Yes I have quite some questions that I have not found answered in detail. First the worldsize: How long would it take a boat from Stormpit to Foresight? And how long by foot? What is the normal size of a Krogar in relation to Nordurs? Same for Jazis and Nish. I obviously need that to relate Sherdets height. I assume there are a lot of villages around every city, that are just not drawn into the map. Am I correct? By reading about the trade and the economy of the Nordur I have found some relations to the Hanse of germany. Am I correct about that? Specially regarding the fact of the limited size of the companies and perhaps the hierarchy in those cities? Have the races mixed enough, that Nordur would not be freaked out by seeing a Naphas caravan? Specially in a large city and in small villages. Or are they used to them? Would Sherdet look odd for not weating armor and weapons like Krogar usually do? Would other Naphas recognize this oddity?
@123leistner Oh man that are some great questions!
First the worldsize: How long would it take a boat from Stormpit to Foresight? And how long by foot?
In the bottom right corner of the map you can find a scale. But you have to consider the distortion a little bit due to the map's perspective. The more you look towards the north the smaller it appears. So Lifarsland looks definitely smaller than it actually is. Based on the scale I would estimate the travel distance around 250 km.
Here is one great reference to travel speed of the middle ages. (its in german) https://www.mittelalter-lexikon.de/wiki/Reisegeschwindigkeit.
Ofc the travel speed on water is also depending on the ship (type, size, technology) and the weather (wind, calm sea etc). By boat i would say it takes a little bit more than 1 day (Lyboria day) with great circumstances and if things are not good it can also take few days. By foot i would say around 5 days.
What is the normal size of a Krogar in relation to Nordurs? Same for Jazis and Nish.
I imagine the height of Krogar's or any Naphas child variating quite a bit. Actually same as with humans. I would say that the average Krogar in particular is as tall as the taller humans (around 1,9 m- 2m). But some of them are even taller and ofc a lot larger than humans. (maybe even up to 2,30m or more). Jazi and Shelx are comparable to humans i think (From small to tall.) And the Nish are a bit tricky to estimate due to their body but i would say most of them are like Jazi and Shelx but in contrast to them they do have also some quite tall ones as well.
I assume there are a lot of villages around every city, that are just not drawn into the map. Am I correct?
Yes. There are many more places and villages etc which are not on the map (yet). To a certain extent we plan on adding more things to the map , since we have a lot of things from the lore which are not marked yet. Ofc some stuff will never be mentioned on the map.
Also the current map should be a quite special version from the world it self. Drawn and created by an inhabitant of lyboria. Probably one of the most complete maps you can find and based on many travels, stories & tales from other inhabitants :)
By reading about the trade and the economy of the Nordur I have found some relations to the Hanse of germany. Am I correct about that? Specially regarding the fact of the limited size of the companies and perhaps the hierarchy in those cities?
Well that is something @Trismegistos should answer, since he is the main creator of the Nordur :)
Have the races mixed enough, that Nordur would not be freaked out by seeing a Naphas caravan? Specially in a large city and in small villages. Or are they used to them?
Well it depends on where. But generally speaking Lifarsland is not as much as visited from other races compared to other regions. Mainly because of its location and others races just not being as welcomed as somewhere else. Maybe @Trismegistos can give some more insight on this. And children of the Naphas are not really known for exploring and traveling regions outside of their homeland. So encountering a Naphas in Lifarsland is definitely something special and most of Lifarsland inhabitants would be quite stunned, since there are still many Nordur which have never seen some species other than a Tagari maybe. Ofc this is a little bit different at outpost or ports.
Would Sherdet look odd for not weating armor and weapons like Krogar usually do? Would other Naphas recognize this oddity?
Well there are certainly some Krogars more equipped than others. Some with a lot of armor but also some with no armor at all. But almost every Krogar at least carries a weapon. If Sherdet is just wearing his trousers and not even carrying a real weapon this would be recognized as an oddity for sure.
If you have any questions let us know :)
@Timberwolf Hey there, me again, please stop running away. Jokes aside, sorry for taking so awfully long for the story. It turned out longer than I anticipated and I had some Real Life stuff going on that stopped me from writing every day. I decided to send it to you as soon as I have the first half finished. From there on it should be pretty obvious where I want to go with it and you can tell me if that is ok for you. Also I have some additional questions for you and for @Trismegistos . Would be awesome if you could answer them. Are trade routes from the Nordur to the lands of the naphas a common thing or are they rare? How common is magic in the normal public of every day life of the nordur? And if, which amount? Are nordur aware of the sometimes long lifespans of naphas? I noticed the dark woods on the world map but I found nothing about them. Why are those woods so dark? What's their story?
Might be I overread something. If so, it would be awesome if you could point me in the correct direction. Thanks beforehand for your time and your hard work. Hope you all are doing good. Stay healthy.
Hey @123leistner hope you are doing good as well. Regarding your old question: By reading about the trade and the economy of the Nordur I have found some relations to the Hanse of germany. Am I correct about that? Specially regarding the fact of the limited size of the companies and perhaps the hierarchy in those cities? I just read about the Hanse when you mentioned them. So there were no relations on purpose but you are right in some way there are some similarities. Regarding your new questions: Are trade routes from the Nordur to the lands of the naphas a common thing or are they rare? They became a common thing during the Unionia, when trading and partnerships increased heavily. There are 2 routes for them to trade with the Naphas. The main route is over the sea, starting off at port redsnow and the other route goes through the realm of the tagari, either to the vakra or the mazan outpost. How common is magic in the normal public of every day life of the nordur? And if, which amount? In Lyboria it is called Hermetic instead of Magic. It is not that common in Lifarsland. I mean there is some use of hermetic in the public, but it is rather rare. Are nordur aware of the sometimes long lifespans of naphas? Yes the more educated Nordur are aware of that. Specially Lifarslands Leaders know it, since they share their experience with the Naphas-Lord with their successors. I noticed the dark woods on the world map but I found nothing about them. Why are those woods so dark? What's their story? The dark woods is the home of the Arachnids. You can read some info here - https://www.glimpse-luna.com/arachnids but they are still in development. Do you have some specific questions regarding the dark woods?
Hey there and many thanks for the answers. I just finished translating the first part of the story yesterday, though by rereading I already found some grammatical errors that have slipped. I have to correct them in time. I sent the story over to Timberwolf to read and I can send it to you too if you wish. For now I have no new questions and the question about the dark woods was more of general "what is this" kind. I just wanted to know why they are there and why there are no cities, but now I know. I wouldn't want to live close to giant agressive spiders. Have a great day =)
